There Is a Time Not to Eat

By Don Ruhl (September 17, 2007)

Read the Bible in a year by reading Proverbs 23 and 24 today.

We hear so much about eating that we may not realize there are times not to jump right in and eat everything in sight. Solomon said, "And put a knife to your throat if you are a man given to appetite" ( Proverbs 23:2). Solomon was speaking of eating with a ruler. The ruler is serving you food for a purpose. What is the purpose? Is he asking you to do something you cannot do in a good conscience? If his purpose is evil, do not want to eat with him. If you have to miss a meal, so be it. You will not die. The Bible speaks of fasting and it is good to do once in a while.
