Give Attention to Loving God

By Don Ruhl (April 5, 2008)

To read the Bible in a year, read Joshua 23 and 24.

Joshua urged Israel, "Therefore take careful heed to yourselves, that you love the LORD your God" ( Joshua 23:11). God had done so much for them, and He promised to do much more. In return, God wanted the nation to love Him. That makes sense. Yet, when we have good things done for us, we have the tendency to take careful heed to those gifts rather than to the gift Giver. That is why Joshua urged Israel to give attention to loving God.

Should we not give attention to loving God, especially when we think about all the good things that He has done for us and promises yet to do for us? Are we not tempted to give more attention to the gifts rather than to the gift Giver? Therefore, my friends, take careful heed to yourselves, that you love the Lord your God.
