Advance

WHEN AN ARMY goes into battle, it must make advances against the enemy if it expects to defeat the foe...

Advancing against an enemy is not easy; it takes work. An army cannot sit in the trenches and look across a field at the enemy and say, "Yup. We ought to do something about that enemy army over there. ...We'll work on it, and someday we'll get around to it." If an army did that, the soldiers would have no hope for victory; rather they would be in danger of any enemy attack that overruns their position and kills or captures them. To win in battle, an army must work at winning and go on the offensive.

Growth in the Christian life is the same as being in battle. If one expects to advance or grow and make progress against the enemy, he must work; he must be on the offensive. ...The only way one can overtake an enemy and defeat it it to keep advancing. Simply holding ground will not accomplish the task, and retreating certainly will cause failure. (Steve Cordle, Gospel Advocate, used by permission)

KneEmail: "Therefore, leaving the discussion of the elementary principles of Christ, let us go on to perfection, not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God, of the doctrine of baptisms, of laying on of hands, of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment. And this we will do if God permits. For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted the heavenly gift, and have become partakers of the Holy Spirit, and have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come, if they fall away, to renew them again to repentance, since they crucify again for themselves the Son of God, and put Him to an open shame" (Heb. 6:1-6).
