UNUSUAL EVENTS often stir excitement that the coming of Christ is near...
News of such things as earthquakes, wars, and political or economic upheavals are claimed by self-appointed prophets to be signs of the end. While premillenialists generally refrain from being specific about the date, they do not hesitate to say that current events show we are in the end times. Even in the New Testament times some claimed to know that the time was near. Paul cautioned: "not to be soon shaken in mind or troubled, either by spirit or by word or by letter, as if from us, as though the day of Christ had come" ( 2 Thessalonians 2:2). Regardless of the source and no matter how persuasive it sounds, we should not believe anyone who predicts it. (David Pharr)
