Matter

WORSHIP...

THAT SOUNDS like a simple question, doesn't it? One word to understand and one source from which to seek the information. Yet when you hear the multiplicity of answers given you must conclude that either the question is a lot more complex than it seems or people are ignoring the one source of information and coming up with a variety of answers based on other sources.

There are many, for example, who believe it is not a pertinent question to begin with. Though they claim to believe in the inspiration and all-sufficiency of the Bible, on questions like this they will either defer to the teaching of their church creed or to their own feelings about the matter. In either position, they make the teaching of the Bible on this subject worthless. (If the teaching of the Bible is useless on this subject, then of necessity the stance is taken that the teaching of the Bible is useless on every subject.) It matters not how the argument is made -- "our church creed just simplifies the teachings of the Bible" or "worship is such a personal thing that no one rule could fit everybody" or "it doesn't matter what you do just so long as you are honest and sincere in doing it" -- in the final analysis everyone is saying the same thing: "What the Bible teaches about worship doesn't matter."

THOUGHT: Follow that argument to its logical conclusion and you'll throw your Bible away. (Not literally of course, but in reality.) (Don McWhorter)
