SEVERAL YEARS AGO, Flip Wilson had a routine in which a friend asked him about his religious preference...
"I am a Jehovah's Bystander," Flip answered. The friend asked, "Don't you mean Jehovah's Witness?" Flip Wilson gave one of his coy looks and replied, "They wanted me to be a Witness, but I did not want to get involved."
That statement is very familiar on the streets. When a crime has been committed, people who saw it refuse to talk to the police because "they do not want to get involved." That statement is also common in many churches. It is made by people who attend on a regular basis, but do not want to do any more than that. There are others who never darken the door of the church, rarely pray to God, never study the Bible, but who claim that they serve God "in their own way." What they mean is that they have never submitted to what God has told them to do. Instead, they do what is convenient and comfortable for them. These people mistakenly believe that Jesus has to accept anything that they offer Him. (Craig Tappe)
