Compromise

IN HUMAN TRANSACTIONS, it is often wise to compromise...

If you want to sell your house and are asking $200,000 but a buyer offers only $180,000, you might be wise to compromise to $190,000. The house belongs to you. If you really need to sell it, you have the right to compromise on the sale. You are dealing with another human being, not with God.

Truth should never be compromised. Why? Because it is the word of God. Jesus prayed to His Father, "Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth" ( John 17:17). In Paul's preaching, he made a clear distinction between the truth and the word of men. "For this reason we also thank God without ceasing, because when you received the word of God which you heard from us, you welcomed it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which also effectively works in you who believe" (1 Thess. 2:13). Any church does "not do well" and "sin lies a the door" when this distinction is not clearly made (Gen. 4:7).

THOUGHT: Compromise grows out of taking the truth too lightly. (Burl Curtis)
