IT'S THAT TIME of year again...
The grass is green, flowers are blooming, days are warm -- and people are wearing immodest clothing. That's right. Every year when the frosty mornings of January give way to the sun-drenched days of spring and summer, many begin dressing in very abbreviated attire. Dresses lack enough fabric to cover one's back, skimpy short-shorts (often with words written across the backside), skin-tight tops which reveal cleavage and the mid-section, and hip-hugging jeans are all in vogue this time of year.
Today's styles remind me of the clothing Adam and Eve first wore. When they realized they were naked, they made clothing from fig leaves (Gen. 3:7). Perhaps, Adam and Eve thought their clothing was sufficient, but God did not. When He say their fig-leaf fashion, He made "coats of skins, and clothed them" (Gen. 3:21).
I believe if God still dealt with us as He did with Adam and Eve in the garden, He would make "coats of skins" and clothe some today. I know God is concerned about our clothing because His Word says, "In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel..." (1 Tim. 2:9). Some people's attire today may be trendy, stylish, and fashionable, but it certainly isn't modest.
"But you're just making a big deal out of nothing," someone answers. "You're too old-fashioned." No, it has nothing to do with being old-fashioned; it has to do with Matt. 5:28. Jesus said:
KneEmail: "But I say to you that whoever looks at a women to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart."
THOUGHT: Immodest dress causes lust. It is wrong for men to look and lust, but it equally wrong for women to attract attention to their bodies by wearing attire that reveals too much skin. (Mark Lindley)
