Movie

AMONG THE ITEMS in the national media lately has been the release of the controversial movie entitled "Brokeback Mountain..."

According to reviews, the movie depicts the story of two western men who enter into a homosexual relationship and then (after a parting of ways) try to continue their lives in a more "traditional relationship" where each marries and has children.

Everywhere you look, people in the realm of "Christianity" are talking about it with the most vocal condemning it. From talking about it on radio shows to writing articles in the various medias, a lot of people are greatly concerned about how it is affecting our culture. ...We've seen the effects of the homosexual agenda in TV shows for years, now there are movies that portray all the intimate details on the "big screen." There is a problem, however, with all of this negativity we are seeing...and it has to do with consistency in the area of sin. Somehow or another, we want to openly condemn Brokeback Mountain while we wink at the portrayal of other sinful activities in many other movies.

Brokeback Mountain, while repulsive, is no worse than "Titanic" or "American Pie" because they all openly portray and endorse sin. Whether fornication between people of differing genders or fornication between those of the same gender, sin is sin and is equal in its defilement in the sight of God. Both will lead a person into the depths of hell for all eternity...yet we speak about Brokeback Mountain while freely watching fornication/adultery on TV on a nightly basis. I agree with those who condemn this disgusting movie, and I agree with trying to do whatever we can to discourage the idea from becoming widely accepted in our culture. There is, however, another mission that lies before us. It is the reclamation of the belief that sexual sin between men and women is OK. The Bible condemns both and all faithful children of God will refrain from accepting either of them as a lifestyle or entertainment. (Kerry Richardson)
