Starve

THE PUBLIC HEALTH authorities of San Diego, California, had a difficult problem several years ago...

The pelicans on their beaches were starving to death by the hundreds. It seems that, for years, the pelicans had been the benefactors of the throwaway fish of the local fishermen. When, however, the fishermen ceased this benevolent practice, the pelicans had nothing to eat. A new generation had arisen that had never known the simple task of catching their own meals. The solution was found by bringing in some "unspoiled" pelicans from Alaska to teach the California birds how to catch their own dinner.

THOUGHT: Spiritually, we can be just like these pelicans. Our biblical diet can be so spoon fed, we cease to "search the scriptures" for ourselves. If left alone spiritually, we would starve to death. We have, for too long, depended on our teachers and preachers to feed us spiritually, rather than "fishing" for it ourselves (Mike Winkler).

KneEmail: "These were more fair-minded than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so" ( Acts 17:11).
