B. C. GOODPASTURE used to tell the story of a county superintendent of education who had three applicants apply to fill a vacancy for a school bus driver...
He devised this scheme for selecting the best driver. He took the first applicant to a sharp curve on a steep grade along the road and asked, "How close can you drive to the edge without going over the cliff?" The interested driver studied it and replied, "I believe I can go to within two inches and still be safe." When the second driver heard the proposition he told the official, "I believe I can drive within one inch and not go over." When the superintendent took the third driver to the scene and asked him, he immediately asked, "Do you think I'm crazy? I'm not interested in seeing how close I can get to the edge with a bus full of children. I'll try to see how far I can keep away from the danger lines." Guess who received the job?
THOUGHT: There is a borderline between sin and righteousness. We should not try to get as close as possible to it without going over. A wise teen or adult stays a healthy distance from sin. (Allen Webster)
KneEmail: "Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, licentiousness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you before hand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God" (Gal. 5:19-21)
